Diving in the UK

Created at 12:00am, 31st Oct 2008 by julie binns

julie binns I have only done two dives in the UK (Chesil Cove, Portland) and I have to say I was hugely disappointed. Apart from a near bout of hypothermia thanks to a 5mm wetsuit, the visibility was very poor and the marine life non-existant! And the battle to scrabble back on shore on hands and knees across a very hard, pebbly beach was no fun at all. I realise that I have been spoilt, having dived in the tropical waters of the Indian ocean and the Coral Sea, both of which are rich in reef life, and having seen whale sharks several times in extremely close proximity. However, I am convinced there have to be some decent places and experiences closer to home...aren't there?
