The True Art of Chocolate

Parker's Cakes and Chocolates is olfactory heaven. The minute you step inside, your nostrils fill with the tantalising aromas of cocoa, cream and caramel. It's impossible not to drool!
There's an overwhelming array of delicious delights to choose from, masterfully crafted and expertly served. Watch the maestros at work and completely immerse yourself in the art of chocolate-making before letting it all melt in your mouth.
This is a hidden gem, tucked away in the close-knit, vibrant community of the Weyhill Fairground Craft and Design Centre, situated on the outskirts of Wiltshire.
Chocolatier Barbara Parker told weareDenz how it all began.
I left the bustle of a busy kitchen where I was a pastry chef to start my own business specialising in chocolates and chocolate cake making. Soon we got so busy that my dad joined me to keep up with all the orders. Four years later we are still just as busy!
Which cakes and chocolates are the most popular?
The most popular cake has to be our chocolate ruffle cake but we also do some quirky and unusual wedding cakes, including a boar's head, suitcases and scuba divers! Our most popular chocolate is definitely the champagne truffle and children just love our caramel-filled chocolate mice.
Who are your regular customers?
Most of our business comes through word of mouth and we have a great bunch of regular customers. Some of them have really weird and wonderful ideas - like pork scratching coated in chocolate, chocolate diggers and Moomin houses! We love to watch families grow - from making their wedding cake to their first child's christening, then on to the children's birthdays!
There are some very creative cake and chocolate designs. How do you make these and who's the artist?
All the cakes are decorated in our workshop. Today, we are making ghosts, ducks, flowerpots, gardens and a Peugeot 206! There is always something different to do. The cakes are moulded by hand or we use one of our various chocolate moulds to create the designs. Customers can come in with an idea and leave with their dream cake. It's not just a cake - it's cake art!
What sets you apart from other chocolatiers?
I think what makes us special is that you can come in and see us at work - excuse the mess, but we are a busy workshop! Because we don't have a set list of products, we can adapt and make things to suit our customers, rather than restricting them to what's on display.
Buying chocolate and cakes at our shop is an experience from the moment you walk in and the chocolate smell hits you. We hope anyone coming in will not be able to resist the temptation of coming back for long!
Are you doing anything special for Easter?
We hand make all our own chocolate eggs, rabbits and chicks. This year, our new lines feature chocolate initial letters with tiny rabbits on and chocolate pizzas, so we're sure there's something for every taste!
Resistance is futile - go and indulge!
