World Changers

Taking Action with World Changers
Jacky Thomas tells us about how Wiltshire World Changers (a network co-ordinated by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and funded by the local authorities in Wiltshire) is bringing together people and communities from across Wiltshire who are taking action to look after the environment, tackle climate change and protect wildlife.
Together with volunteers, communities, environmental groups and businesses across the county, we want to bring about a real change in the way people live and think, in order to create a Wiltshire - and a world - which future generations can enjoy as we do today. As individuals we can make small changes that contribute to the total of actions and by joining together we can tackle issues that are impossible for us alone.
It is heartening to meet so many enthusiastic and committed people, giving the lie to the frequently stated view that people are apathetic. Amazingly, there are several hundred environmental groups in Wiltshire and it would be good to be able to make contact with more of them.
What we aim to do
The aim is to support the many community groups and individuals taking action for the environment in Wiltshire by giving opportunities for interaction and by providing basic advice and information. There is a wealth of experience in established groups that can be invaluable to a newer group but time constraints prevent individuals from offering as much help as they would like. One way the network can help is by passing on their learning and saving others from starting from scratch.
Who can join the network
Any individual or community group taking action to care for the environment of Wiltshire is welcome to join the network. This includes those protecting the biodiversity of Wiltshire as well as those who are trying to influence the behaviour of local people and reduce Wiltshire's carbon footprint. To receive the e-newsletter, please click on the link in the top right hand corner of the page.
A human face
In the longer term, most of the information will be available on this site but we believe that having a person to speak to is important too. From time to time, we will invite people to get together to share their experience and make it easier to contact other groups.
Get in touch
We already know a lot of you but would like to hear from other groups and individuals around the county. If you are already part of an environment action group, would like to find one nearby or want to set one up yourself, please contact us. You can get in touch by email or telephone, in person at the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Devizes office or by post.
The Green Map
Put yourself on the Green Map. This is the easiest way to join the network and to let others know you are there. Look on the home page http://www.wiltshireworldchangers.org and follow the link.
