When the opportunity arose to open her own shop and stock it with toys and books that were inspirationally educational and ethically sourced, Sarah Montague found her niche.

The Enchanted Tree in Weyhill was born from Montague's frustration with the lack of quality toys that teach children about the world in a fun and interactive way, combined with her passion for child learning and development. Of equal importance was the need to have toys produced from sustainable sources.

Supporting a network of Fairtrade and British suppliers, this magical outlet sports an intruiging assortment of percussion instruments from South America, knitted toys from Kenya, solar powered boats, Geopuzzles, tales and tunes from far away places, wonderfully crafted wooden toys and push-along penguins that transport children to a world of fantasy where learning is part of the fun.

From pocket money to piggy banks and party bags, there's something for every budget and age group. And if you're battling to make your mind up, Montague's enthusiasm and expertise are on hand.

'The response so far has been overwhelming,' she says. 'People love the fact that they can come here and immerse themselves in the enchanting atmosphere without being afraid of touching or playing with what's on display. We've had a lot of fun, including racing penguins around the shop - and that's just the adults!'
